Being Czech

Both of my parents are from Prachatice, a small town in the Czech Republic, and they moved to America in the mid-90s to start a new chapter in their lives. While I was born and raised in the United States, my family roots remain deeply connected to the Czech Republic.

Since all of my extended family still lives in the Czech Republic, I have grown up balancing two cultures. On one hand, I embrace the traditions, language, and history of my Czech heritage. Visiting family in Prachatice has given me a chance to immerse myself in the culture, from enjoying traditional Czech foods to learning about the places that shaped my parentsโ€™ lives.

On the other hand, I am also shaped by my experiences in America. Growing up here has allowed me to forge my own path while keeping my Czech identity close to my heart. Navigating these two worlds has helped me appreciate the importance of heritage and the beauty of blending different perspectives.

Being connected to both of my identities has shaped who I am today. It has taught me to value diversity, cherish family traditions, and approach life with an open mind.
